As a Schonberg Care Assisted Living Community, our number one priority is always the safety and wellbeing of each of our residents. If you talk to one of our residents or their loved ones, they'll be the first to tell you that our emphasis on individualized quality of care is what matters most to them, and that exceptional level of care is our biggest concern day in and day out.
We operate within the exclusive "Schonberg Neighborhood Concept,” which focuses on grouping residents with shared needs and abilities, as we have found this to be highly successful in further enhancing specialized care and stimulating social activity and interaction. Residents that require minimal assistance are able to enjoy a fulfilling sense of independence without the daily stress of running a household, while residents that are experiencing varying levels of memory impairment are provided higher levels of assistance and security. No matter what level of care is needed, our residents and their families enjoy the peace of mind in knowing that their loved ones are receiving exactly what they need.
"Several times each day, we answer the question, 'Is this in the best interest of each of our residents?' If the answer is yes, then we can't go wrong. This simple operating philosophy is the secret to our continued success."
—David Schonberg, Founder and President of Schonberg Care
David began his extensive career in the senior retirement industry shortly after earning his MBA and MHA from Tulane University. He broke ground on his first assisted living community, The Suites at Sugar Mill Point, in Houma, LA in January of 2001. He went on to develop Alden Pointe Assisted Living and Memory Care in Hattiesburg, MS before acquiring ownership of three South Carolina assisted living communities, which now proudly bear the Schonberg name and distinction, as well as Schonberg’s exceptional standard of care. From there, David and his team went on to open two additional luxury assisted living and memory care communities: Vista Shores overlooking Bayou St. John in New Orleans, and the stately Ashton Manor in Luling, LA. Most recently, they debuted the highly anticipated Beau Provence Memory Care Assisted Living, the first and only memory care exclusive community in Mandeville, LA. Beau Provence was developed using ‘The Schonberg Neighborhood Design’ concept, which offers incremental levels of care depending upon individual resident needs and represents the highest and most personalized standard of care in the industry. Through his growing number of successful ventures, David has proven his innate ability to conceptualize, develop, and manage unique communities and programs that provide the utmost of excellence in state-of-the-art care.
“The way I judge the success of each one of our communities like Alden Pointe is by asking myself this simple question: if that resident were my mother or father, would I feel that their every need and happiness were being met every day?”
In December of 2004, Kathy brought her passion for caring for the elderly to Alden Pointe when she became the community’s executive director. As a licensed social worker, Kathy has more than 25 years of experience meeting the needs of the geriatric population, including past experience at nursing homes, home and community-based service programs, and as Director of Emergency Welfare Services. A Hattiesburg, MS native, Kathy received her B.S. degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She is also an active member of Forrest General Hospital’s Community Advisory Board. Kathy is dedicated and committed to the individuals she serves at Alden Pointe, and she takes a personal interest in all of her residents. Simply put, Kathy runs Alden Pointe the same way she would if her own parents lived here, putting the residents’ safety and well-being first, and providing excellent care on a daily basis no matter what the situation. Kathy and her husband Ricky, who is the director of nursing for Alden Pointe, have been married for 33 years and have two children, both of whom are pursuing degrees in nursing.
"At Alden Pointe, we are one big family. We take great pride in providing personalized, compassionate, and loving care to each resident. Our passion is driven by the opportunity to make a difference in the later stages of someone’s life."
Ricky received his B.S. degree from Mississippi State University in Forestry, and he has worked for the state of Mississippi as a Registered Forester, as well as being a Forestry Consultant in the private sector. However, Ricky’s interest and desire to work within the medical field led him return to school to pursue an RN degree. After completion of his studies and gaining nursing experience in the emergency room at Forrest General Hospital, Ricky accepted the position of director of nursing at Alden Pointe. Ricky’s high level of integrity and commitment to both his residents and team members makes him the perfect individual for the job. Using a team approach to care for the residents, Ricky tirelessly works alongside his team to ensure that each resident receives the highest quality of care possible.
"Each resident's medication plan follows meticulous details and administration by our team. We understand the vital role that medication management plays in the health and wellbeing of our residents, and we take that responsibility very seriously."
